Kathmandu to Bangkok

February 21 and in a three hour flight I'm yanked from one reality to another... this morning in Kathmandu my mom and I finished packing while we enjoyed last laughs, smiles, food and chia before setting off for the airport. My two brothers and two close colleagues held a traditional Nepali send off, complete with kurd-rice-red dye 'tika' (blessing on the forehead) and a garland of flowers around the neck. Each took their turn adding more of the rice and good wishes. Now we find ourselves in Bangkok, where I'm amazed by the velocity of this internet connection and at the same time want to run the other direction in the face of 7-Eleven, McD's, BK, Starbucks, and in-your-face sex working culture that this Thai capital struts. From beautiful layers of colorful material adorning the Nepali women, to the bare minimum on this Thai ladies, my mom and I are reminded of the world's wide diversity... Thank goodness for means of expression that help us to process, but questions run deep. My heart cries for the budding friendships I have left behind and the inspiring work environment that had me in constant exploration. As my dad says, all transitions are difficult; this one especially will be a challenge. Hope all is well with you, friends, and more to come in the days to come... be well.
